Many of these bills are listed below, although the Department of Community and Economic Development can give no assurance that all bills related to land use and planning are included. In addition to the Municipalities Planning Code (pdf format), which establishes the framework for land use planning and regulation in Pennsylvania, there are a number of other state laws that influence or control aspects of land use. Act 67 (585kb) and Act 68 (2.02mb) of 2000 were the most sweeping changes to the Municipalities Planning Code in many years, and are one of the corner stones of Growing Smarter. Section 301(6) of the MPC requires that any municipal, multi-municipal, or county comprehensive plan be consistent with and not exceed the requirements contained in a number of specific statutes.
